In approximately 1250 the Aztecs arrived in the Valley of Mexico. In 1325, the Aztecs found the city of Tenochtitlan on Lake Texcoco. For the next centuries this becomes a highly developed society. Calendars, zodiac signs, mathematics, and various systems were developed from this civilization. In the early 16th century, the Spanish are looking for new places to find riches. As they travel, they arrived in the Aztec land. There, they found a civilization that was beyond of what they could think of. The natural beauty of the land, the organized social system, and the civilized society was completely unexpected to them. With that said, this became the start of the Spanish colonization of the Aztec civilization.

Cortes and his army are sent to South America to explor.
You are one of Cortes' officers, and are ready to earn your fortune.
During your explorations Cortes meets an Aztec emissary, Teutliltzin, and sends a request to Montezuma for a meeting. Teutliltzin returns from Montezuma with gifts for Cortes and a message discouraging a visit to Tenochtitlan.
Cortes decides to heed the message, but you...

At the height of its success, the Aztec civilization boasted great wealth, rich culture, and a dominating force within Mesoamerica. With a triple alliance with neighbors Texcocans and Tacubansas its foundation, the Aztec people enjoyed a bustling economy with established, influential political and religious institutions. In fact, if one Spaniard were to observe eagerly and openly, he would discover that this civilization’s bare bones was not too different from what they were familiar with, past glaring differences such as clothes, language, and rituals. Its society had a strict hierarchy: an upperclass nobility called pilli, common people called macehualli, property-less laborers, serfs, indentured slaves and slaves, carrying the society on their backs. At the turn of the 16th century, the Aztec civilization reigned over 500 small states via conquest or commerce. More than 140,000 people inhabited the capital, Tenochtitlán; the population packed high density, culture, and influence in Mesoamerica.
You are part of this proud civilization. As a young boy, coming to adulthood, you receive a strong education with a deep appreciation for religion, art, and history. Your older sister, too, was educated but she spent most of her time learning to cook, clean the home, and create useful tools beside your mother. Your mother led the household and held a strong voice and influence in the community. She led discreetly yet firmly beside your father, a strong and fearsome warrior. You often accompany your father on hunts; he wakes you up just before the sun rises and teaches you to fight, to lead, and to pray to the gods and ancestors.
After a long morning of training, you go to the village market to fetch ingredients for your mother. To your surprise, you find the marketplace even more loud and chaotic than you’re used to.
[[''What’s going on?''->Aztec2]]You and your small group of men don't even make it to the city. You are seen as intruders by a native tribe and killed on sight.
''You died''You come accross the Totonac Indians from Cempoala. You find out that the Aztec's overbearing rule has frustrated the Totonac Indians and many of the other tribes. The Aztecs have heavily taxed the tribes of their resources. In fact, it would seem that the tribes' loyalties do not lie with the Aztecs at all. Cortes sends Teutlizin with more gifts to the Aztec city in hopes of a meeting, only to be rejected again. Xicomecoatl of Cemoala then proposes an alliance with the inland tribes of the Spanish, Tlaxcala tribe, and Huejotzingo tribe to overthrow the Aztec Empire.
Cortes secretly encourages a group of Mayas to kidnap some Aztec tribute-collectors. Cortes then releases two in a goodwill gesture. This gesture warms the attitudes of the Aztec people towards the Spanish, and Cortes gets an invitation for a meeting with their leader, Montezuma.

The army takes control and makes alliances with the native people without any conflict or issues with the people living in the lands.

[[''Make preparations''->3Spanish 12]]Cortes has order the building of boats to cross the lake that Tenochtitlan sits in the middle of. You also hear the smallpox has killed many Aztecs in the city, including chief Cuitlahauc. May other tribes have allied with you to end the rain of the Aztecs. It is February 1521, the time has come to attack Tenochtitlan. You gather your men, and prepare to attack.
[[''Attack the Western outer defense of Tenochtitlan''->Spanish13.1]]

[[''Attack the Easter outer defense of Tenochtitlan''->3Spanish13.2]]
[[''Attack the Norther outer defense of Tenochtitlan''->3Spanish13.2]]The defenses are weak! You break through with ease. You and your men are destroying the Aztec warriors! The battle is far from over though! You along with your men, fellow Spanish soldiers, and the warriors from neighboring tribes fight for mutiple days. Thousands die on both the Aztec and Spanish's sides. You are running low on men and supplies. Cortes does not seem to care!
[[''Encourage Cortes to call for reinforcements and supplies''->3Spanish14]]
[[''Cortes knows what he is doing, do not encourage him to call for help''->Spanish14.1]]Cortes dispatches messages to all allied cities, urging them to send as many men and supplies to Texcoco for one final offensive against Tenochtitlan. A few months later a fresh supply of soldiers, boats, weapons, and other supplies arrive, replenishing the Spanish army.
Cortes decides to split up his forces. He send part with Cristobal de Olid and part with Sandoval.
[[''Go with Olid''->3Olid1]]
[[''Go with Sandoval''->3Sandoval1]]Olid presses on to Chapultapec, destroys aqueducts, cutting off the water supply of Tenochtitlan before proceeding to Coyoacan. You fight well, but overall you are not in the heat of battle and do not have a chance to prove yourself.
Cortes pushes almost into the outskirts of Tenochtitlan, cuts Ixtapalapa causeway so four of his brigantines can penetrate into the inner lake.
Cortes is trying to decide which causeway to fight up.

[[''Encourage Cortes to go up Tacuba''->3Spanish15]]The attack is incredeibly successful! Thanks to your cunning, three bridges into the city are taken in one day! You are promoted for your genius. During the fighting, many of the enemy warriors joined your side, increasing your numbers even further.
Finally inside the heart Tenochtitlan, the Spanish begin taking over. Over the next few months, thousands of innocent Aztec civilians are killed, and 7/8 of the city falls to the control of the Spanish.
You hear a rumor that the current emperor is going to attempt an escape.
[[''Ignore the rumor''->3OSpanish16.1]]
[[''Heed the rumor and post more men on duty''->3OSpanish16]]
You ignore the rumors, and the emperor manages to get through your defenses. Fortunately, he is caught by another Spanish officer. You superiors are dissapointed that the emperor nearly escaped thanks to you. This capture marks the end of the Spanish conquest of Tenochtitlan. In August of 1521, and over following year, Cortes and his soldiers consolidate their holdings. Disease, starvation, and the fall of the capital city weakens native resistance. Cortes requests for Franciscans to help convert and assimilate the indigenous population.
You were promoted many times over the course of your service in the army and amassed enough wealth to become a successful trade merchant and live out the rest of your life in luxary.

[[''Wait there's more''->Credits]]You return to Tenochtitlan to find things a total mess. The men that Cortes left behind to watch the city attacked and killed dozens of Aztecs, further straining the relationship between the Spaniards and the Aztecs. Gone are the days of the Aztecs believing you are gods. Now they seem to hate your presence. After the attack, many of the Aztecs leaders are taken into custody. One of them is Monetzuma's brother, Cuitlahauc. Tensions are continuing to rise between the Aztecs and the Spaniards. Cortes is considering releasing Cuitlahauc in an attempt to open the Aztec markets so the Spanish can get provisions.
[[''Encourage Cortes to release Cuitlahauc! This is a great idea!''->WSpanish10]]
[[''Discourage Cortes from releasing Cuitlahauc! This is a terrible idea!''->Spanish10.1]]Cortes orders the release of Cuitlahuac. However, the move backfires and triggers a battle between the the Aztecs and the Spaniards. Several Aztecs and Spaniards are killed in the ensueing battle. The Spaniards are fought back into a corner of the city that they control. The Spanish release Montezuma to go and address the Aztec mob but he is stoned to death by his own people. This makes Cuitlahauc the new emperor of the Aztecs. The Spaniards are holed up in their corner of the city over the next week. The Spaniards plan to sneak out of the city.
You take your group of men and...
[[''Sneak out of the city with the Spaniards''->Spanish11]]
[[''Go and attack the Aztecs while the Spanish sneak out of the city''->Spanish11.1]]“Have you seen them yet?” “They have such odd skin! And strange clothes!” “But why are there many women that look like us with them?”
As you push through the crowd, determined to accomplish your mission of retrieving food for your family, you could not help but be distracted by such remarks. You don’t know where the comments come from, but your itching curiosity compels you to investigate what they’re talking about.
You weave between the peoples with a newfound objective, bumping shoulders and finding yourself closer to the heart of the village. Until you see the strange sight.
You see them. White men in heavy garments that make you sweat just looking at them. You try to make out what they’re saying, but you quickly realize its futility: it is not your language. But the women with them speak yours, or some similar dialect. You inch closer, even catching the eyes of one of the men. The unfamiliarity breeds tension. You instinctively look away. You hear something familiar: one of them women with them speaking your tongue.
What will you do?
[[''Go up to her and investigate what is going on.''->Aztec3]]
[[''Back up and stay with the crowd.''->AztecOther]]
You gather the courage and walk up to the woman. She is quite beautiful and she smiles at you. You are awkwardly speechless for a moment. You snap back into reality.
[[''Ask her "what is going on?"''->Aztec4]]The crowd persisted in their chatter. “Perhaps these are the gods?” “That’s true, they look like they’re from another world.””They look kind of ugly; would gods be that ugly?””Don’t be stupid. And don’t be loud. They might hear you.””They don’t speak our language idiot”
You giggle as you overhear the conversation.
The people around you insist that these could be the prophesied gods and why take the chance of upsetting them with a lackluster welcome? You look around and see people running home and fetching their finest gold goods.
[[''Run home and get your own gold as a gift''->AztecOther2]]The woman says that they were the people who defeated our leader.
What do you think of what she said?
[[''They must be the gods that my ancestors were talking about!''->Aztec5]]
[[''Oh no! What will happen to us?!''->Aztec5]]
You continue to follow them, giving them a very special treatment. A few months later, together with the Spaniards, you reached Cemoala. You overheard that Xicomecoatl proposes an alliance to overthrow the Aztec empire.
Then, Cortes, the leader of the Spanish, was given permission to visit Tenochtitlan.
Within the following months, you continue to follow them. These people continue to claim different cities and establish alliance with them.
You move from Cempoala, Jalapa, Xicochimalco, Ixhuacan, Zautla, Ixtacamaxtitlan, and Cholula.
On November 8th, you reach Tenochtitlan.
A few days later you come across an escapee from Cholula
[[''Listen to him''->Listen1]]
[[''Be a snitch and go tell the Spaniards about who you found''->Aztec6]]You run home. Catching and calming your breath as if you were hunting, you sneak into the house. You evade your mother, waiting for the ingredients you had forgotten. You take your gold pendant and run back to the crowd.
Laying your gift down at their feet, you catch a glimpse at the same man from earlier except he’s smiling. Oddly, it sends a chill down your spine.
[[''Continue to follow these strange men''->Aztec5]]The escapee tells you that the Spaniards took his land, took the resources, and they were not satisfied until the killed all of his people.
[[''Continue listening''->Aztec6]]A Spaniard came and killed the Cholutecan escapee in front of you. You realized that these people kept on taking your gold and resources.
Now, what will you do?....
[[''Fight the Spaniard and avenge the Cholutecan!''->ADeath1]]
[[''Run and hide to survive''->Aztec7]]The rocks you throw only succeed in making the Spanish soldier mad. He stabs you through the stomach with his sword, and then leaves you lying in the dirt to die. You realize that the Spanish soldiers were never gods, and will destroy everything you hold precious and dear. Everything goes dark.
''You died''You have become more suspicious about these people in your land. They hardley seem to be gods. When Cortes learned about the attacks, you were asked to join the Spanish to fight against the Aztecs.
[[''Escape from the Spanish, and join the Aztecs''->Aztec8]]You are now fighting against the Spanish.
You noticed that one day, the person who led the first wave of the Spanish people to your land is gone. However, the fight continues.
A month later, Cortes came back with more men. This only continues to make you and your fellow Aztecs more angry.
Months continue to pass, and you are still fighting against the Spaniards. They only take more and more from you and your people. It seems like your emperor, Montezuma doesn't do anything.
[[''Question Montezuma as your leader''->Aztec9]]
[[''Stay loyal to Montezuma, he is your leader and he will bring peace''->ADeath2]]Montezuma is brought out by the Spanish to try and calm the mob. You are enraged. Your leader has done nothing for you or the Aztec people. He has let the Spanish murder the people without punishment! You start throwing stones at Montezuma. Soon, everyone else is too! Montezuma is quickly killed by the stones.
[[''Continue to resist the Spaniards!''->Aztec10]]The Spaniards bring out Montezuma to try to calm the mob. Soon the mob is throwing stones at him! You do your best to protect him, but soon you are being pelted with stones too! More and more stones hit you, beating you down to the ground. Soon all you feel is pain. You start to wonder what the point of it all was. Everything goes dark.
''You died''When you are still fighting the Spanish you heard that the Spaniards killed around 400 warriors. What will you do?
[[''Continue to fight!''->DAztec3]]
[[Betray your people in exchange for money''->DAztec4]]
[[Run away. the possibility of keeping your life''->Aztec11]]You are caught trying to flee and are executed
''You died''You valiently try and fight the overwhelming Spanish Army. Suddenly, you feel a knife at your back.
''You died''[[You survive!''->Aztec12]] You move to a nearby village, hoping the Spaniards would never invade. However, a disease strikes your people to their knees. They suffer from some sort of ailment you've never seen before. The healers are desperate, begging for more human sacrifices to appease the gods. There were always dead bodies waiting to be buried. Cries and coughs of children, women, and men rang throughout the streets. Blood oozed from skin lesions and their skin felt like fire to the touch. You live peacefully for some months. You have forgotten what it feels like to hold a bow.
(link-goto: "''Facing war and disease you do not know what will happen to you next''", (either: "DAztec5", "DAztec6", "Aztec13",))The fear of your life being taken begins to dull until the Spaniards come. They conquer and pillage your home; you die mercilessly at their hands.
''You died''You begin to cough. Fear creeps in as you feel your energy leave your body. In several days, you become one of the countless victims of smallpox.
''You died''You look around as people wail, die, and beg the gods for mercy. Though you remain strong and healthy, you feel powerless for your people. You know you must fight. But for which side?
[[''AZTEC WARRIOR''->Aztec14]]
[[''SPANISH ALLY''->Aztec15]]You struggle to fight the Spanish as they take over the capital. The number of Aztec fighters has dwindled since many were killed by the strange diseases.
The battles continue to take to Texoco.
What will you do?
[[''Stand in the front lines to defend your land''->DAztec7]]
[[''Join the Spanish fighters and leave the Aztec cause.''->Aztec15]]Alongside the Spanish, you feel waves of anger, discomfort, and despair. You see the blood thirsty look in their eyes. Though you cannot understand their language, when they speak you hear their gold-hungry greed. Your blood curdles, but you close your eyes. You hope to see a day of peace for you and the Aztecs. You wish you could apologize to your father for turning your back on your people. He wouldn't understand. You wonder where your sister is, if she's even alive. The thought of her being abused or taken advantage of by those filthy Spaniards makes you angry. You wish your mother was still alive. But at least she doesn't have to look at you, knowing you have killed your own people.
You and the Spanish fight their way from city to city, gathering more Aztecs. As the Spanish continue to weaken the Aztec powers, Cortes divided the forces.
(link-goto: "''Against your own will, you join a force.''", (either: "DAztec8", "DAztec9", "Aztec16", "DAztec10",))You die in battle. You will be known as a valiant warrior, loyal and true to the Aztecs
''You died''You battled in the Ixtapalapa causeway. They put you in the frontlines to fight. You die in battle. You lay lifeless next to your Aztec brothers. One could not tell that you killed them.
''You died''You depart Texococo for Ixtapalapa. While you are resting you decide to go for a walk. YOu take deep breathes, hoping the serenity of the area could seep into your mind. And it does.For a brief moment, you feel peace.
Suddenly, you hear a shout behind you. A chill of a spear slips into your back. You look down and see its tip slide out and inside your chest. Falling to your knees, you hear the words, "Die, traitor." Left for dead, you make an excruciating turn to look at the sky. You watch the clouds pass as you die, in a pool of blood and guilt
''You died''Your primary mission is to destroy the aqueducts. You realize its brilliance: to weaken the capital from the inside out. After a few months, de Olid received an order from Cortes to attack from your bases.
You were able to unite with Cortes' group. As of now, more Aztec people are part of the Spaniards' army. On July 24, 1521, the Spaniards surprise attacked the Aztec civilians of Tenochtitlan, massacring 800 people. Now, the city is controlled by the invaders.
What will you do?
[[''Kill as many Spaniards as you can.''->Aztec17]]
[[''Flee the war''->Aztec18]]
[[''Continue to fight with the Spanish''->Aztec19]]De Olid departs Texcoco for Ixtapalapa.

You spend the last moments of your life killing Spaniards, hoping to make some meaning of it.
[[''Wait there's more''->Credits]]You leave behind your loyalty to the Aztecs and your alliance to the Spanish. You wander into the wilderness, content with dying. Some men find you, starving and broken, and carry you into their village. They too have fled from the war. They hope to build a new community. You become a part of this group. You will always fear the arrival of invaders.
[[''Wait there's more''->Credits]]More Aztecs die at your hands and your allegiance to the Spanish.
As the Spaniards continue to take over the city, the Emperor tried to flee. He was captured. He then surrendered. The Spanish, to their joy, have grasped power.
You remain with them. As time goes by, you assimilate with the Spanish culture and ways. From sunrise to rest, guilt haunts you, leaving you restless. A once respected warrior, you are treated as a second-class citizen. You eventually marry and have children. Unlike many of your friends and family, you grow old. You tell stories to your children and their children. You pass away in your sleep.
